The 2019 LACCEI Academic Merit Medalist

Professor Gossett Oliver is a FEANI registered EUR ING Chartered Engineer (UK) and the Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the Caribbean Maritime University (CMU), Jamaica. Prior to this appointment he was the Vice President of the Graduate Studies and Research at the University of Technology Jamaica. He is also the Adjunct Director of the Institute of International Recognised Qualification (IIRQ) and an External Verifier for the Caribbean Region appointed by the City and Guilds of London, for its vocational educational programmes.

Professor Oliver’s membership includes: member of the Board of Directors of the Institute of the Caribbean Accreditation Council for Engineering and Technology, He is a fellow of the following professional bodies: The Welding Institute UK, City and Guilds of London, Jamaica Institute of Engineers, Jamaica Institute of Management and the Caribbean Academy of Sciences, Member of CARISCIENCE, and the Association of Commonwealth Universities Conference of Commonwealth. He also served as chairman of the National Apprenticeship Board, Jamaica. Jamaica Institute of Management (JIM), School of Advancement & Management. Other Board Membership includes the Caribbean Maritime Institute, Jamaica Tertiary Education Commission (J-Tec), Heart Trust/NTA, Institute of International Recognised Qualification, Chairman of the Editorial Committee of the Jamaica Institute of Engineers, Member of the National Council on Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NCTVET). He is also a member of LACCEI.

He holds a B.Sc. in Metallurgy and Materials from City London Polytechnic London, England, an MSc in Metallurgy and Quality Control from Brunel University, London England .and a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering, Brunel University, London England. He also holds several City and Guilds of London Certificates in Engineering.

He has lectured at several Universities in five continents for over 41 years including Kilburn Polytechnic, London England, Ahmadu University, Zaria, Nigeria, Kaduna Polytechnic, Kaduna, Nigeria and the University of the West Indies; He later served as head of the Engineering department at the College of Art Science and Technology. He was Lecturer in Material Science at the University of Technology and was a visiting Professor at the Florida International University. He worked as the Dean, of the Faculty of Engineering & Computing at the University of Technology.

Among his vast experience as an educator , he has also published 24 Academic Professional Papers/Publications , 38 Conference Papers and 21 Reports ,manuals and monographs.
