The 2024 LACCEI Academic Merit Medalist

This year, LACCEI is proud to award Dr. Hamadou Saliah-Hassane with the 2024 Medal of Academic Merit for his long career and his dedication and inspiration to many students and engineers throughout Latin America and the Caribbean.

Professor Hamadou Saliah-Hassane earned a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from McGill University in Montreal, and a BSc and MSc in Applied Sciences from École Polytechnique de Montréal, Canada. He currently teaches informatics, computer networks, and computer networks and security at TELUQ University in Montreal, where he conducts research on Intelligent Distributed Systems and Mobile Robotics.

Dr. Saliah-Hassane has received numerous awards in recognition of his achievements, including many Certificates of Recognition from the IEEE Education Society and the Edwin C. Jones, Jr. Meritorious Service Award from the IEEE Education Society (2019). Aligned with his work in Distributed Embedded Systems, he has also received the IEEE Standards Association award with recognition for chairing and contributing to the development of IEEE Standard 1876™ – 2019 on “Networked Intelligent Learning Objects for Online Laboratories” (2019), the IEEE SA 2019 Emerging Technology awarded to IEEE SA Working Group 1876™ – 2019. Under the candidate’s leadership as president of the IEEE Education Society Montreal Chapter (2005-2022), the Chapter received the “Chapter Achievement Award 2019 for sustained contributions of innovative educational and professional activities in the community”.
