Abstract
This research focused on conducting a case study on three recycling organizations in Panama with the purpose of analyzing their core activities, materials they recycle, those that are not utilized, and identifying challenges and opportunities to improve waste management in the country. The study employed a methodology that combined literature review, and interviews conducted, both in person and via virtual platforms. Based on the gathered information, it was identified that one of the main challenges for effective recycling in Panama includes technical, economic, and financial obstacles. These barriers hinder the utilization of certain materials that could be recycled. The study concludes by offering significant observations on the current situation of recycling in Panama and proposes recommendations such as strengthening recycling infrastructure and promoting public policies to favor circular economy practices. It provides a solid foundation for future initiatives aimed at improving waste management, focusing on overcoming the identified challenges. This research not only contributes to understanding current obstacles in recycling in Panama but also lays the groundwork for concrete actions that can be taken to enhance environmental conditions and promote more sustainable practices within the country.
