Abstract

The tannery industries consist of the transformation of animal skin into products for daily use of the human being, where the use of chemicals and processes that pollute the earth, air and water are required, these processes bring with them a negative impact on the atmosphere, damaging the environmental quality and directly damaging the ecosystems that in many cases do not have a reversal, the project aims to design a prototype that allows minimizing the emissions of polluting gases, generated in the chemical and industrial processes of the sector of tanneries in the department of Antioquia. A study of polluting gases produced by the tanneries is carried out, the characteristics and the polluting indices, then study the indicators, to identify the changes that must be made in these polluting parameters, taking into account decree 02 of 1982 which governs tanneries, and the control of atmospheric emissions and regulations is dictated, such as article 37, which establishes the admissible emission standards for thermal treatment facilities for animal by-products. In the results of this project, the design of the prototype is carried out with affordable, feasible materials, and with the appropriate characteristics for the absorption of polluting gases, the main material is activated carbon, which is a versatile adsorbent, used to purify, decolorize, deodorize, separate, filter, remove or modify harmful components of gases and liquid solutions.
