Abstract
The inadequate implementation of illuminated guides on public space curbs creates a sense of insecurity among pedestrians. In response, Eco-Lux solar-powered bricks were developed that incorporate photoluminescent strontium aluminate stones. This was achieved through an experimental, quantitative methodology comprising two stages: design and testing. The results demonstrated the product's viability by achieving stable illuminance for 10 hours in real conditions. Favorable thermal gain was shown during the day, making this a highly energy-efficient material. Additionally, the product passed the water absorption test, proving its effectiveness in hot, rainy, and humid areas. In terms of resistance, it proved to fulfil its intended purpose. Favorable luminance results were obtained with the Eco-Lux 1 brick under real conditions during the first three hours. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Eco-Lux brick containing 1 mm photoluminescent stones is technically viable as a passive urban signpost, providing good light performance, particularly in sunny weather conditions during the day.
