Abstract
Today, adobe houses are exposed to seismic movements, since they were built in a traditional way without professional supervision. This implies establishing an optimal reinforcement method using uniaxial, biaxial and electrowelded geogrids for houses built 30 years ago. First, the characterization of the clay soil was carried out in order to know the physical properties and determine the appropriate dosage for the elaboration of the adobe blocks. Subsequently, these were used in the construction of 12 walls, which were compared by means of the diagonal compression test to determine the resistance of each of them. The results show that the electrowelded mesh had a better stress behavior with 1.71 kg/cm2 unlike the other two reinforcements mentioned who presented a result below 1.60 kg/cm2. Thus concluding that the electrowelded mesh is the optimal technique for reinforcing adobe houses in the town of Yanamarca-Peru.
