Abstract
Students of Intelligent Systems Engineering at the Bolivarian University of Ecuador, present significant difficulties in the understanding and application of probability concepts. The difficulties shown during Statistics classes to develop an accurate probabilistic intuition, motivated the development of the present research. The results of the design and application of a strategy for the teaching of Probabilities in Engineering, by means of Monte Carlo Simulation, are presented. Microsoft Excel was used as software for the development of the simulations. The selected sample consisted of 17 students, who participated in the study for a period of 4 months, at the end of which they expressed their opinion on the relevance of the proposal. The results of the survey allow concluding that the applied strategy contributed to the understanding and motivation of the students of Intelligent Systems Engineering in probabilistic concepts, and promoted critical thinking and the application of theoretical knowledge of probability in practical contexts.
