Abstract
The study diagnosed the characteristics of clays in the district of Chiclayo, so descriptive research was carried out, with a cross-sectional experimental design, applied to two areas of the district, through the realization of exploration wells (calicatas). The first area under study was the Urb. Monterrico VI stage, where 9 calicatas were executed, obtaining 18 samples in total. The second area was Fundo Los Mangos S/N, in which 12 exploration wells were carried out, totaling 24 samples. The 42 soil samples were applied laboratory tests such as: moisture content, granulometric analysis, consistency limits, volumetric weight, specific gravity of the solids and salt content, in order to know the physical characteristics, they present, in addition geotechnical tests were carried out such as consolidation and direct cutting to the second stratum of each calicata that were 21 samples analyzed. The results showed that the water table is 3 meters deep on average in the two zones. On the other hand, for the 12 calicatas belonging to the Fundo Los Mangos area, it is characterized by having a higher percentage of clays and silts at each exploration point, the Plastic Index varies between 17.78% and 58.33% and the predominant soil according to the SUCS classification is CL (low plasticity clay) and the total soluble salts are between 1500 and 1800 ppm, an average settlement of 2.60 cm is shown and the cutting parameters have an average cohesion of 0.221 kg/cm2 and the angle of 15.21°. We conclude that according to the results of direct cutting there is a bearing capacity of 0.69 kg/cm2 on average of the two zones, which indicates that the type is bad for the construction of civil projects due to its low load capacity.
