Abstract
The challenges related to the durability and mechanical performance of rigid pavements in the city of Arequipa require innovative and sustainable solutions. Therefore, this experimental and quantitative study aims to determine the optimal mixture among four proposed dosages that improves compressive strength. The methodology involved the design of a reference concrete mix using the ACI 211.1 method to achieve a target compressive strength of 280 kg/cm², along with the prior characterization of fine and coarse aggregates. Based on the reference mix, three modified dosages were prepared: 1.5% FbA, 5% CCA + 1.5% FbA, and 10% CCA + 1.5% FbA. A total of 16 cylindrical specimens (100 mm × 200 mm), four per dosage, were molded and cured for 28 days before conducting compressive strength tests. The results showed that the aggregate properties complied with the requirements of the ACI 211.1 method. Moreover, the mixture containing 1.5% FbA and 5% CCA exhibited the highest average compressive strength, reaching 300.325 kg/cm², which represents an increase of 7.31% compared to the reference mix. Consequently, it is concluded that the ACI 211.1 method is suitable for pavement concrete design, and that the incorporation of 1.5% FbA and 5% CCA constitutes a viable alternative for enhancing the durability and compressive performance of rigid pavements in the city of Arequipa.
