Abstract
Abstract—The study addresses the lack of updated data on the uniaxial compressive strength (UCS) of granite–granodiorite rocks of the Coastal Batholith geographically emplaced in the surroundings of the city of Trujillo, information necessary for geotechnical design and stability evaluation in engineering projects. The research is applied and experimental. Sampling points were delimited within quadrangles 17-e and 17-f of the National Geological Map, from which five zones were selected and representative samples were extracted. These were prepared as standardized specimens and tested at the Rock Mechanics Laboratory of Universidad Privada del Norte, recording their parameters and determining their UCS. The results show a strength range between 61.72 and 171.23 MPa, evidencing variability among samples due to differences in texture, composition, and degree of weathering. The classification placed two samples in medium strength, two in moderately high strength, and one in high strength. The study concludes that the obtained values provide data on the UCS range of the Coastal Batholith rocks around Trujillo and confirm the mechanical heterogeneity of their lithologies, which is fundamental for geotechnical and mining applications in the region.
