Abstract
In a world facing an unprecedented environmental crisis, construction and demolition waste (CDW) management is positioned as a critical challenge and an opportunity to transform the construction sector. This article conducts a study of the recycling and resource recovery processes from construction and demolition waste (CDW), with the aim of identifying the most effective and sustainable techniques. From the analysis of 132 articles published between 2020 and 2024, 20 studies that met the inclusion criteria were selected, using a methodology based on preferred elements for systematic review reporting. The results highlight the role of advanced technologies such as optical and magnetic separation and 3D printing to optimize the quality of recycled materials, as well as their positive impact on environmental sustainability. Critical challenges were identified such as the absence of homogeneous regulations and the limited adoption of these technologies in the industry. The study concludes that the implementation of sustainable practices and the promotion of the circular economy in the construction sector require a joint effort between regulators, companies and communities. It also emphasizes the importance of robust policies and continuous research to overcome barriers and maximize environmental and economic benefits.
