Abstract

This research explores the design of convention centers through the lens of architectural flexibility, highlighting how this feature enhances functional adaptability and sustainability. Using a mixed-methods approach, four international and national cases were analyzed: Owensboro Convention Center (USA), Ágora Bogotá (Colombia), Bruges Meeting Center (Belgium), and the Lima Convention Center (Peru). A situational diagnosis of Arequipa identified a significant gap in infrastructure for large-scale events, limiting its competitiveness as an international destination. The results show that modular spaces, advanced technology, and sustainable strategies enable the creation of versatile infrastructure that respects the local context. The study concludes that the proposed design for Arequipa has the potential to boost the local economy, strengthen tourism, and position the city as a key player in the international event circuit.
