Abstract
-This study aimed to determine the relationship between written competence and text production in students enrolled in the Faculty of Fisheries and Food Engineering at the Universidad Nacional del Callao (National University of Callao). The study approach was quantitative, basic, non-experimental, cross-sectional and correlational, where 22 incoming students admitted to the first semester of the academic year 2022-I participated. The measurement was performed with the test of spelling and grammar and writing rules. The results showed that the average of the participants tended to be at a level to be improved, both in written competence (M = 14,41) and text production (M = 11,545), where their levels were low in the performance of both variables and its dimensions. Furthermore, a positive and significant relationship was found between the use of phonemes (rs = 0,597, p < 0,01), punctuation marks (rs = 0,646, p < 0,05), tildes (rs = 0,836, p < 0,05), reference elements (rs = 0,620, p < 0,01), syllables (rs = 0,801, p < 0,01) regarding text production. The study found the existence of a significant relationship between written competence and text production, demonstrating that the greater the effort to develop written competence, the greater the effort to produce a text by incoming students.
