Abstract
Given the need for a machine capable of conducting tensile tests on plastics, specifically PLA, the creation and development of such a machine has been proposed to be used and tested by Mechatronics Engineering students at the Technological University of Bolívar. Considering the importance of plastics in engineering, due to their versatility and durability, and their widespread use in various applications, it is essential to understand their mechanical behavior under different conditions, in this case, under tension. The main objective is to provide an educational and practical tool that allows students not only to observe but also to actively participate in conducting these tests, overcoming the limitation that only laboratory assistants have access to this equipment. This initiative aims to enhance the understanding and handling of plastics in practical and research applications. The development of this machine will start with conceptual design, addressing both theoretical and practical aspects to ensure that all necessary requirements for its proper operation are met. The ASTM D638 standard will be followed, which establishes standard procedures for tensile tests on plastics, ensuring that the tests are conducted in a standardized and safe manner. This will minimize errors and accidents, creating a safe, competent, and enjoyable environment for regular use by students and other interested groups.
