Abstract
Academic interest in the Creative and Cultural Industries has been on the rise in recent years. A subsector that plays an important role within this sector is that museums for their high heritage and cultural value and their contribution to tourism. In order to understand how innovation is conceived in museum institutions, this article proposes to deepen through a bibliographic and qualitative analysis, to know the conceptions of innovation, in what they innovate, and for what museums innovate. The qualitative results of these analyses reveal the level of importance of innovation for the introduction of new or improved products or methodologies with a high degree of novelty and specificity in the experience. From the findings are derived the main theoretical and practical contributions that museums can implement to improve their capabilities and achieve better results.
