Abstract

In this research, we review different investigations obtained from a systematic search to determine which are the most efficient remediation methods to solve the problem caused by the oil spill in the world's oceans. This is the reason for using the PICO methodology: What remediation methods are used in the face of an oil spill in the oceans? to determine the most efficient remediation methods to solve the problem developed worldwide in the problem addressed. Subsequently, to optimize information management, the PRISMA diagram was applied, in order to be able to select appropriate articles using the inclusion and exclusion criteria in the Scopus database, from the beginning of January 2016 until August 2023. Twenty-two scientific articles directly addressing remediation methods and environmental risks from ocean oil spills were reviewed. For this reason, three main oil spill remediation methods are highlighted in this systematic review: SAR method, Dispersants and Bioremediation.
