Abstract

Today, while cloud computing is one of the most significant trends in IT procurement, its adoption remains limited, especially among SMEs in developing economies. The objective of this study is to present a systematic review of the literature on the factors influencing the adoption of cloud computing (CC) by SMEs in the context of developing countries. A total of 62 relevant articles from the last five years were reviewed and extracted from various online databases. The factors were analysed, integrated and ranked, and the results revealed that relative advantage, top management support and competitive pressure are the most critical factors affecting SMEs towards ACN. The findings of this review contribute to helping both providers to design strategies for the penetration of cloud services and SMEs to make sound adoption decisions. This study contributes to ACN research by showing a holistic view of research models or frameworks, critical factors and geographic distributions. The results also show possible future research in this field.
