Abstract
Abstract– The objective of this research was to evaluate the quality of the granular material from the Edgar, Guitarrero and Chonta quarries, according to the EG-2013 Highway Manual, adding clay in percentages of 5%, 10% and 15%, for use on unpaved roads. in the city of Cajamarca, since clay has cohesive properties that bind particles. The laboratory tests carried out were: Moisture Content, Granulometric Analysis, Atterberg Limits, Modified Proctor, California Support Ratio, Los Angeles Abrasion and, Flat and Elongated Particles. As main results we have that the granulometric band that most resembles the aggregates is A-1, the Liquid Limit varies from 17.8% to 28.1%, the Plastic Index varies from 4.03% to 11.24% (except for the river aggregate without and with the addition of 5% clay), the California Support Ratio of the hill aggregates decreases from 83.14% to 19.60%, and the river aggregate from 50.54% to 11.02%; Finally, the abrasion percentage of the aggregates does not exceed the maximum 50%. From the results we conclude that the addition of clay does not improve the quality of the granular materials. It should be noted that the river aggregate does not have a Plastic Index.
