Abstract
This research focuses on the feasibility of using bamboo as reinforcement in reinforced concrete beams to reduce steel consumption in construction. Bamboo stands out as an ecological alternative, since it is a plant with mechanical properties comparable to steel. The main objective of this research is to analyze the flexural behavior of reinforced concrete beams through standardized tests and simulations, considering the addition of bamboo slats as reinforcement, in comparison with conventional reinforced concrete beams with steel reinforcement. According to the data obtained, the beams with bamboo and steel reinforcement showed effective results with an average resistance of 1654 PSI, similar to the control beam studied that obtained a resistance of 1601 PSI. On the other hand, the beam that only contained bamboo reinforcement in the tension part did not have the expected flexural strength compared to the control beam. The strength of the beam with only bamboo reinforcement in tension was 771 PSI. The data found demonstrates that the reinforcement of bamboo with steel is a viable option for reducing steel in structural elements, and at the same time allows a reduction in the environmental impact in the construction sector
