Abstract
The purpose of a smart city is to reduce the shortcomings and public emergencies of the citizenry with the aim of providing quality, efficient and safe services. The objective of the research was to design an intelligent container for the collection of solid waste according to the level of storage through the application of the Internet of Things (IoT). The city of Piura-Peru was considered as a case study due to the high rate of solid waste that they house on a daily basis. The methodology was developed in four stages, identification of actors, diagnosis of the city, identification of solid waste collection points and the design of the smart container. The smart container optimizes routes, improves times and reduces solid waste collection costs by 20%. Finally, the IoT is a link for the development of transversal proposals that contribute to the development and integration of a smart and sustainable city for the benefit of the population.
