Abstract
Magnesium based alloys are biocompatible and safe for the manufacture of temporary implantable medical devices. Mg-Zn-Ca alloys have received much attention as a biodegradable implant material due to superior mechanical properties. Various alloying and processing techniques have been adopted to simultaneously improve the mechanical properties and degradation behaviors. Extrusion amongst other processing techniques offers these desired properties and in addition to effective alloy design can be used in tuning magnesium alloys for various implant applications.
