Abstract
The use of electrical energy in low-voltage networks is exposed to overvoltages from atmospheric discharges that affect equipment and people, so in an electrical system, surge protection devices SPD (Surge Protective Device) are generally installed in configuration between line and ground conductors to reduce detrimental effects. The objective of the research is to determine the optimal procedures for the installation of surge protection devices in low voltage networks to avoid deterioration in protection equipment and avoid personal accidents through the combination, location of protection devices, double voltage effect, the connection and coordination of SPD. Procedure that will allow continuous operation by means of the overvoltage protection device that activates and discharges the lightning current to ground that will short-circuit the electrical circuit with the link of the well to ground by connecting the equipotential grounding with the installations exposed by a short time, limiting the duration of the overvoltage.
