Abstract
Wetlands are ecosystems of importance for human beings, they provide diverse natural resources. However, they are being threatened, due to urbanization, pollution, and deterioration of natural processes due to tourism. Thus, the main objective of this research is to identify ecosystem alterations, using geographic information systems in Los Pantanos de Villa - Chorrillos. This thesis is of a descriptive applicative level and the ArcGIS program was used to determine the surfaces of areas, water bodies and urban zones that have changed over the years. The results experienced significant changes in the surface area of the ecosystem, which was reduced from 3,626,6242 m^2 to 2,227,232 m^2; while urban areas grew from 3,653.7 m^2 to 733,424.4 m^2 and water mirrors increased 3 479,606 3 m^2 due to the addition of artificial lagoons, in addition, it was possible to know the characteristics of the flora and fauna in the area reserved. It concludes, that of the alteration, in the reduction of the area of the ecosystem, reduction of natural lagoons and increase of artificial lagoons and increase of urban areas. Likewise, mitigation measures are proposed to counteract negative environmental impacts.
