Abstract

The objective of this quantitative, experimental and applied research was to determine the influence of the activated sludge system on the quality of the effluents from the El Porvenir stream. For this purpose, a first characterization of the effluents of the bed was carried out to design the activated sludge system and the need to apply a pre-treatment was determined, which consisted of screens made up of 2, 1 and 0.5 cm bars and a gravity separator that allowed the sedimentation of solids and the floating of oils and fats. Afterwards, simple samples were taken from the effluents of the bed, the effluent from the pretreatment and the effluent from the activated sludge system for 12 different days and the Biological Oxygen Demand BOD5, the Chemical Oxygen Demand COD, Total Suspended Solids - TSS were analyzed and Oils and Fats O&F. The evaluation of the system was carried out from the calculation of the removal efficiency of the system for the parameters BOD5, COD, SST and AyG. As results it was obtained that the efficiency for BOD5 is 93.52%, for COD it is 92%, for SST it is 91.54% and for O&F it is 2.96% system. Finally, it is concluded that the activated sludge system significantly influences the effluent quality of the El Porvenir stream, since statistically the percentage of pollutant removal is significant.
