Abstract:

The following research presents the development of a simulation model developed in the Arena 14.0 program for the patient care process of a Neoplastic Hospital in the city of Arequipa - Peru. The main problem is the waiting time to be taken care of in the different specialties offered by the hospital and in second place the unsatisfied demand that exists for patients who request attention. The research is oriented to the areas of appointments, admission and external consultations in nine specialties. For its development, the data was collected directly through observation and statistical records of the institution. In a first stage, elements that make up the process are identified, by means of diagrams, then samples were taken for arrival times and service times. The analysis of the model reveals that there are bottlenecks and limitations of the quotas by specialty. With the obtained information, a simulation model was validated in which different process improvement alternatives are proposed in order to reduce the waiting times of the patients. As a result, we propose some solutions to the main problems and improvements in the service provided by the institution.
