Abstract:

The training of professionals in engineering is in an arduous process of transformation and improvement, to respond to the new demands demanded by this century. Given this, ABET's accreditation requirements emphasize the importance of ""soft"" skills in planning and achieving excellence in engineering education. In addition to technical knowledge, engineers have to experience and become aware of the importance and impact of lifelong learning. In this paper, we present an analysis of the possible incorporation of ABET's 3i competence: Lifelong Learning, through two courses related to Basic Training Research in the Systems Engineering program at the National University of San Agustín. The experience in the design of the courses is shared and a mapping is shown between the structure of the courses and the requirements according to an analysis of the literature on the minimum components / activities that the training for lifelong learning requires.
