Abstract:

Golf carts and Low Speed Vehicles (LSV) become to be the main transportation means in many communities in the US. In some places they allow to share city streets where the speed is limited to 35mph. It is obvious that in case of a collision with a standard vehicle the golf cart’s passengers are exposed to a very high risk since these vehicles are not required to comply with the safety the rules imposed on standard vehicles. In contrast, this paper discusses exposure of the passengers to risks due to maneuvers performed, unknowingly by the driver. These include sharp turn, high accelerations or deceleration or combination of them. These maneuvers might cause a passenger to be ejected from the vehicle causing severe injuries.
