Abstract |
The objective of this project is the creation of an online and real time automatic and statistical process control
system (SPC) using the LabVIEW programming language. The computer application was developed to
autonomously control a system that adds insulation (plastic coating) to electrical cable in a local company, using a
PID control strategy which used as its measurement instrument a laser micrometer that measured the diameter of
the cable. This application was also programed to monitor the performance of the system using the LabVIEW PID
and SPC toolkits. These toolkits consist of libraries of VIs (virtual instruments) for the implementation of key
functions of control and statistical monitoring. The theory behind the project and how this is implemented are
described.
