The research project whose results are reported began in September 2008 with the aim of studying the impact of innovation in rural SMEs has in the local development of the municipalities that have the necessary characteristics to be considered under this heading. Results were fulfilled using new conceptual approaches on rural area, Rural Innovation and SMEs, which are considered enrolled in principles of post modernity. The methodological approach of choice was the case study, using as techniques in-depth interviews, participant observation and focus group.
The evolution of research activities, coupled with the implementation of prospective information systems (MICMAC), which drew on key variables identified with the active collaboration of stakeholders (Local Government Mayors, business associations, universities) was achieved established through the negotiation process that means the implementation of training. During the training activities, we used a construct innovative, called knowledge management community, developed in a doctoral thesis, applying in a Rural Municipality as an organization. This last aspect is considered by its authors to innovative contribution for excellence. Since the methodological approach used was based on a case study for which we applied different instruments (interviews, focus groups) is not explicitly raised a hypothesis, but got one empirical, which can be expressed in the following way: application of community knowledge management is becoming an instrument for the implementation of future cities Knowledge processes.
