For years, meaningful statistics on the total or partial failure of information systems development projects have
been observed –think of information systems (IS) as those based on information technology and
telecommunications. This problem occurs in a large number of organisations and remains critical, in spite of the
use of modern methodologies and techniques for such projects, as well as inherent advances in literature and
research on the area. The importance of this in-progress research is to identify critical success factors attributed to
the end-user and to assess the correlation between them and the success or failure of an IS developement. The
main objective is to determine how the attitudes and abilities of the end-user impact on IS developments, with the
aim of providing related preventive information to organizations that undertake these projects. Thus, the ultimate
benefit of this study is to provide theory to promote the relevance of knowing, well in advance, some key end-
user´s attitudes and skills and the need to give them the required attention. Also, to contribute to strenghen IS
development strategies, in this regard, in order to proceed accordingly and with due anticipation.
