colleges and industries is an extremely useful. There are many possible
avenues for that including: •
Joint research proposals involving industrial employees and faculty
members •
Joint research and developments projects involving students and/or
faculty members • Customized training courses by faculty members •
Faculty summer employment •
Consulting by faculty members •
Internship and co-op opportunities for graduate and undergraduate
students. It is well known that Industry-University collaboration represents
one of the most cost-effective and rewarding methods for completing
projects successfully. In addition, this represents win-win situation for
all parties involved. Academic research and industrial research have some fundamental
differences. Industrial activities are market (supply and demand) driven
whereas academic research may include some other factors. In order to
evolve industry-university collaboration into a successful partnership,
academic institutions must understand industrial work environment and make
every effort to work to meet the needs of their industrial partners. In this paper, we will present the "best practices" that
make industry-university collaboration, a rewarding experience for all
parties (students, faculty members, and industrial employees) involved. Mailing Address: College of Engineering Florida Atlantic University Boca Raton, FL 33431 Phone: Authors: Mohammad Ilyas / ilyas@fau.edu / FAU /(P)
