Center for Hemispherical Cooperation in Engineering and Applied Science (CoHemis)

Abstract:

The Center for Hemispherical Cooperation in Research and Education in Engineering and Applied Science (CoHemis) is located in the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez.  Our mission is to promote the development of human resources and technology assessment among the countries of the Western Hemisphere.  We aim to serve the needs of the Americas with the participation of engineers and scientists from the different countries.  Since its foundation in November 1991, CoHemis has carried out a large number of local and international initiatives. During the past twelve years we have developed an administrative role model to promote the international cooperation. We are now working with global scale initiatives; like Engineer of the Americas, Global MBA, International Center for Sustainable Development, Application of Remote Sensing and GIS Tools, and Learning Factory.  However, particular needs are always evolving along the countries, which require us to improve the methods to pro!

mote such collaboration.  We have been able to continue our mission by adjusting the ways of collaboration.  We continuously renovate the motivation among the 42 members of our consortium, elaborate new strategies for developing interdisciplinary research between the different countries, continue organizing seminars and workshops about relevant topics, and improve the participations by helping to disseminate the rapid changes of knowledge and technology.  CoHemis is ready to work with new ideas and possibilities toward a most complete hemispherical collaboration in engineering and applied science and to help others doing the same.
