Paper Title:

APLICATIONS IN LOGISTICS  USING SIMULATION WITH PROMODEL

Abstract:

ProModel®, is an animated simulation software, specially designed to  model productive and logistics processes.   ProModel® software include statistical tools that grant the use of variability, phenomena always present in materials arrivals, processing times and resources operation times.

Some applications frequently used with ProModel® are: a) layout improvements,  models can be  constructed with the objective  of minimize distances that should be travel by  operators and raw materials; improvements that  mean logistics costs reductions; b) simulation of collecting and picking operations in warehouses, stores or distribution facilities by using different  kind or number of human or physical resources;   c) simulation of dock operations, rapid interchanges or crossdocking, were shipments  from distinct sources are unloaded, arranged and reloaded as soon as possible, without intermediate storage.

Savings and scale economies are  accomplished in these quick assignation and transportation to multiple  destines  in the outside of enterprises; d) Choosing of better alternatives between a set of possible paths,  simulation allows to compare different cost alternatives represented by distances, means of transportation, fares, times of transportation, etc.; e) To simulate the flow of  raw materials, human resources, physical resources, in load, unload and transportation operations;  f) simulation of information flows of client orders, well known  as call centers, answer times, number of operators, length of queues can be experimented ; g) simulation of integrated dynamic logistic systems, in order to see the totality of information flows, transportation routes, and operation control along the supply chain and to obtain more profitable alternatives.
