Abstract:

In the present research work is carried out the operational analysis of the Avenue Pedro J. Menéndez Gilbert (section from the Planta Progreso Interagua to the Base Naval Norte) in the city of Guayaquil, Guayas province, Republic of Ecuador, before and after putting in service a new bridge over the Daule river (bridge Guayaquil - Samborondón), to assess the influence it will have on this urban artery. It uses the concepts of Traffic Engineering and the methodology to perform operational analysis in urban roads, described in the HCM 2016 (Highway Capacity Manual edition 2016). In addition, it includes the analysis of the Time Factor of Maximum Demand and the average speed of travel in said section, parameters required to obtain the Level of Service (road capacity). Land transport is the most common means of mobilization of people, freight and / or goods to urban centers, is associated with the growth of the vehicle fleet and its use in the city of Guayaquil causing delays in Peak Hours, increase in the times of trip and generating the problem of vehicular congestion. Based on the observation of the problem, the factors that affect the Service Level of Av. P. J. Menéndez Gilbert are analyzed in the maximum demand slots, before and after the new bridge over the Daule river is in operation, obtaining the Levels of Service in both directions of circulation
