Abstract:

This paper presents the implementation of a point cloud stitching system to produce 360◦ 3D images from individual, partial views of a solid model. Performance analyses support the decision-making process to select the best performance parameters for the chosen iterative closest point (ICP) registration algorithm. The analysis outcomes lead to interesting findings about two well-known ICP variants, and provide useful implementation guidelines for developing a practical 360◦ 3D scanning system.
