Abstract:

In English:
Studies in educational psychology show that factors such as personality, life history, culture, motivation, and environmental factors modify the perception that the subject has of reality, influencing the learning processes. The act of learning is a complex activity that needs to be understood in its dimensions: individual and social. Learning is both the motivation and interest of the subject who learns how the quality of mediation between the learner and the object of knowledge. In this sense, the investigative study of the different learning styles (Felder and Silverman, 1988) of students of Chemical Engineering at UFV and its socioeconomic and cultural profile is relevant and necessary to the definition of teaching strategies that best suit the characteristics of these students. Knowing the preferred styles of students, teachers may propose appropriate interventions aimed at improving learning and contemplate all students. It is concluded that it is possible to define teaching strategies based in the students' learning styles to improve the teaching-learning process in the Chemical Engineering.
