The purpose of this paper is to introduce a Manufacturing Engineering curriculum, proposed as an undergraduate program to be offered at the Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, in Pereira, Colombia. This program might face nationwide workforce shortage in manufacturing engineers and innovators. Local, national, and international manufacturing contexts, linked to the technological competitiveness, are considered to further justify the creation of the program. The main objectives are presented, as well as a description of the candidate profiles, and also the professional and occupational competences to be reached with the program. Finally, the general structure of the curriculum is described.

Este artículo presenta la esencia del programa de Ingeniería de Manufactura, que se pretende implementar en la Universidad Tecnológica de Pereira, en la ciudad de Pereira, Colombia. Este programa puede resolver el problema de escasez de personal profesional científico e innovador en el campo de la manufactura. Se hace una presentación de la realidad local, nacional e internacional sobre Manufactura, seguidamente se justifica la creación del programa, se enuncian sus objetivos, se hace una descripción de los diferentes perfiles (aspirante, profesional y ocupacional) y se presenta la estructura general del currículo.
