Paper Title:

Surface modification of carbon nanotubes using poly(vinyl alcohol) for sensor applications

Abstract:

Surface modification of the carbon nanotubes (CNTs) plays an important role for their utilization in various applications. Earlier studies focused on surface modification of nanotubes for their use as reinforcing agent in composites or for gas sensing applications. In this study, vertically aligned single-wall and multiwall CNTs were grown on a 1 cm2 silicon dioxide substrate using chemical vapour deposition (CVD). The surface of grown nanotubes was modified by polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and the wettability on nanotubes was investigated by using wettability analyzer. The electrical characterization of these modified nanotubes were performed since it is expected that by adapting analysts onto the PVA modified CNT, the electric transport property of CNT may changed. In this report, the detailed mechanism of charge transport by modified CNT will be discussed. Sensory applications of these modified nanotubes are also suggested.
