The LACCEI 2013 Conference offers two accreditation workshops described below. Individuals can participate in either or both workshops and the Second Annual Forum of Latin American Accrediting Agencies. These workshops are also Modules A and B in the LACCEI Par Amigo Initiative Preparation Program. Participants will receive a certificate of completion for each workshop. Completion of both workshops will allow participants to submit their application to the Par Amigo Initiative. The Par Amigo Initiative is a LACCEI effort to enhance accreditation of engineering programs throughout Latin America. Pares amigos work with engineering programs and assist in the selection of accrediting agencies and in all aspects of the accreditation process.

The cost of individual workshops is $75.00

Cost for participation in Module A and Module B workshops is $100.00.

This workshop covers all of the basic elements of the accreditation process.  It includes interactive, hands-on exercises and activities allowing participants to become familiar with the accreditation process and techniques.  Assessment vehicles, self-study content, course portfolios and the responsibilities of programs and institutions will be discussed in detail.

Michael K. J. Milligan, Ph.D., P.E.
Executive Director, ABET

Dr. Milligan is Executive Director of ABET, a nonprofit organization that accredits over 3,200 college and university programs in 24 countries in the disciplines of applied science, computing, engineering, and engineering technology. Dr. Milligan is responsible for all aspects of ABET’s global operations. Prior to joining ABET, Dr. Milligan worked in environmental satellite program development at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Maryland. Dr. Milligan also served 24 years as a career U.S. Air Force officer, where he managed international research portfolios in Europe, the former Soviet Union, the Middle East, and Africa. Dr. Milligan served six years as an associate professor, and later as deputy department head, in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado. Dr. Milligan earned a Ph.D. from The University of Texas at Austin, an M.S.E. from the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, and a B.S. from Michigan State University - all in electrical engineering. He also earned an M.B.A. from Western New England College. Dr. Milligan is a senior member of IEEE, a member of the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society, and a registered professional engineer in Colorado and Maryland. He lives in Severna Park, Maryland, with his wife and their two sons.

Engineering Program Accreditation – GCREAS Process (English)- Module B

Dr. Ramón E. Vásquez is the Chairman of the Greater Caribbean Region Engineering Accreditation Systems (GCREAS) Accreditation Council. He received his Ph.D. from Louisiana State University, and his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, both from the University of Puerto Rico at Mayagüez. He has been affiliated with the University of Puerto Rico for over 25 years. During these years he has served in various academic functions, involving teaching, research and administration, as Dean of the College of Engineering; as the Director of Research & Development Center; as an Associate Dean for Academic Affairs; as Associate Director of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department; as Director of the Center for Computing Research and Development; and as Director of the Laboratory of Remote Sensing and Image Processing. Currently he serves as Director of the Caribbean University, Ponce Campus in Puerto Rico.

Hugo Pirela, PhD.

Dr. Hugo Pirela has been working since 2007 as an international consultant residing in Dominican Republic, where he has conducted several research, advisory and consulting services to organizations such as USAID, European Union, Ministry of Economy of Paraguay, and in the Dominican Republic for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, INTEC, IDB; CNC; FONDOCYT, and VICINI Group. He has extensive teaching experience and is the author of numerous articles and research on economic, development, strategic planning and management for development results. Currently he is a Research Professor at the Instituto de Altos Estudios en Ciencias Sociales, iGLOBAL, Funglode, RD, Executive Director of the Greater Caribbean Regional Engineering Accreditation System, RD and Consultor del Consejo Nacional de Competitividad, RD.

GCREAS (Greater Caribbean Region Engineering Accreditation System) is accredits Engineering Program in the Caribbean and Central America. This workshop is a synopsis of the GCREAS Evaluators Workshop. It includes all the critical aspects of accreditation through the GCREAS process. It includes interactive and hands-on activities to familiarize participants with the GCREAS process and techniques. Individuals with an interest in learning the GCREAS accreditation process or in obtaining GCREAS accreditation for their programs would benefit from the workshop. In addition, this workshop is Module B of the Par Amigo Preparation. Completion of the workshop will allow participants to submit their applications to the Par Amigo Initiative with expertise in GCREAS accreditation. GCREAS is modeled after ABET, accreditation is done in the language of the country.

Member of the Board of Accreditation ACAAI and Director of Assessment and Accreditation of Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería in Nicaragua. He has 26 years of experience in Higher Education and 8 years of experience in the field of Evaluation and Accreditation. He is the secretary of the Comisión de Evaluación y Acreditación (CEVA) in the Consejo Nacional de Universidades (CNU) in Nicaragua.

Descripcion

Este taller es una sinopsis del taller de evaluadores ACAAI. Incluye todos los aspectos críticos de la acreditación a través del proceso ACAAI. Incluye actividades interactivas y prácticas para familiarizar a los participantes con el proceso ACAAI y sus técnicas.

Individuos con un interés en aprender el proceso de acreditación de ACCAI o en la obtención de la acreditación ACAAI para sus programas se beneficiarían por su participación en el taller. Además, este taller es Módulo B de la preparación de LACCEI Pares Amigos. Finalización del taller permitirá a los participantes a presentar sus solicitudes a la iniciativa LACCEI Par Amigo con especialidad en acreditación ACAAI.
